Geography focuses on the spatial dimensions of human activities and physical landscapes. It is concerned with interrelationships between humans and their environments and links the physical and social sciences. The primary medium of analysis is the map, in traditional form, as an image generated by satellites (remote sensing), or generated by computers. Geographers have a wide variety of employment options in business, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. The job market is especially strong in computer based Geographic Information Services.

Geography majors are encouraged to develop individualized programs meeting their specific needs, in consultation with the adviser. Majors must complete 54 hours of geography courses. Majors must take introductory physical and human/regional geography. Either physical geography, or the human/regional geography sequences may be counted toward A&S requirements. Majors must also select 12 hours of Systematic Geography, and 11 hours of Spatial Techniques of which Computer Cartography, and Geographic Information Systems are required. A capstone experience is required of all students in their senior year.
