Geography
at the University of Cincinnati began in 1907 with the work of Nevin
Fenneman, an early president of the Association of American Geographers. It
was combined with geology until 1959 and with regional planning from 1959 to
1963. Since 1963, it has been a separate department, first under the headship
of Robert B. McNee, then under that of Howard A. Stafford, K. Bruce Ryan, Robert
B. South, Howard A. Stafford, and now under that of Roger M. Selya
.
The department has awarded 43
Ph.D. degrees, 162 thesis M.A. degrees, and 26 non-thesis M.A. degrees
through 1998. At present there are 14 students pursuing M.A. degrees and 24
pursuing Ph.D.
